Bologna Freight Village
50 Years of Evolution in Freight Transport and Logistics
The history of Interporto Bologna began in 1971 with a clear objective: to relocate heavy goods vehicles away from the city centre, reduce urban congestion, promote rail and intermodal transport, and develop a specialised area for logistics and freight transport services in the Bologna area.
Having achieved its initial goals, Interporto Bologna has continued to grow, strengthening its role in the promotion of rail and intermodal transport and becoming a national benchmark for logistics innovation.
The evolution of the Bologna Freight Village can be divided into three phases. In the early years, the Hub became a focal point for new players in the transport sector, such as express couriers, logistics operators and MTOs. In the second phase, it established itself as a strategic partner for industries that recognised the central importance of logistics.
Today, in its current phase of development, the Hub not only meets the needs of a constantly evolving market, but anticipates them through innovative and technologically advanced solutions, while always maintaining a strong focus on human and social values that have long been part of its DNA.

Work in Progress
Interporto Bologna holds a 3.34% stake in P.L.T. Srl (Piattaforma Logistica Trieste Srl), a company established to design, build and manage all activities related to the new maritime terminal at the Port of Trieste.
Construction work was completed at the end of 2020 and the terminal became operational in early 2021. This project represents the only major port-related initiative at national level. Interporto Bologna’s participation in the consortium awarded the contract marks the first time in Italy that an inland port operator has invested directly in a maritime terminal.
In October 2020, HHLA, the Port of Hamburg’s terminal operator, acquired a 51% stake, joining Francesco Parisi Casa di Spedizioni, I.CO.P. and Interporto Bologna in managing the logistics platform.
It is a source of pride to play an active role in creating a gateway to the Adriatic and a bridge towards Eastern markets. Interporto Bologna will be connected to the terminal via the new Bologna–Padua–Trieste rail link currently under development.
