On Monday 11 January 2021, the new intermodal service between Bologna Interporto and the TKN north terminal in Cologne started.
After a 2020 in substantial growth from the point of view of rail transport, the activation of this new connection, which will be followed by others to the south of Italy, allows us to glimpse positive signs for 2021 in the movement of goods by rail for the Bologna airport.
The new service will include five pairs of trains a week operated by TX Logistics, a company of the Mercitalia group, and will be equipped with P400 semi-trailers, mega trailers capable of transporting goods up to 3 metres high, for a total of 34 units.
Not to be underestimated is the environmental saving (about 28 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year compared to road transport), which gives this service a highly strategic role from an ecological point of view.
"The Bologna freight village plays a crucial role in Europe, thanks in part to its geographical location, which makes it a strategic hub for the relaunch of international rail transport," says Sergio Crespi, General Manager of Interporto Bologna spa.
"This relationship is to be added to the other connections that are already active and consolidated and thanks to the commitments put in place by our Company for the increasingly important growth of intermodal transport, a goal that Interporto Bologna spa will never stop pursuing".
