With a view to developing more value-added services at railway level, Interporto Bologna SpA pays particular attention to the activities carried out by the railway wagon maintenance workshop located inside the infrastructure.
This is a building with a covered surface area of 1,000 sqm, with 2 covered tracks of 50 m length, one of which with a 35 m inspection pit, and an external track of 150 m length. The workshop is equipped with an 8-ton overhead crane, a PdR5 certified brake testing machine, a walkway for locomotive control from above, a compressed air system and welding smoke extractors. The entire environment, inside and outside, including the inspection pit, is lit with LED lights in accordance with EC regulations.
Maintenance can be carried out either "fixed", i.e. at the facility, or "mobile", i.e. using a vehicle equipped to reach other facilities.
To further broaden the scope of activities carried out by the workshop, Interporto Bologna SpA signed a network contract with ORR Srl called WAMARE (Wagon MAintenance & REvision) aimed at providing overhaul services in two workshops (Bologna and Bari) in fixed mode and, at the same time, providing mobile interventions throughout Italy, responding quickly to requests for intervention.
"Once the start-up period for the new infrastructure was over, the workshop resumed its growth path thanks to the arrival of new customers and the increase in production volumes," says General Manager Sergio Crespi. "In 2020, the market showed positive signs, despite the worsening of the crisis triggered by the pandemic, especially for activities carried out in fixed mode".
