As regards transport recorded at the Bologna Freight Village, the 2022 ends with a confirmation of the growth of the railway sector.
More than 5,000 trains were handled during the year (+8% compared to 2021) and, with a view to enhancing the infrastructural capacity of the railway terminals, the Company's efforts are aimed at further supporting the increase in rail and intermodal traffic with the goal of accommodating up to 8,000 trains at the end of the five-year period 2023-2027.
Confirming this growth is the trend in rail wagons recorded at the end of the year, which shows an increase of 13% compared to the previous year, corresponding to approximately 8,600 more wagons.
This year, in fact, the expansion in demand favoured the increase in volumes on already consolidated trains, such as the connection with Cologne, which increased from 5 to 6 weekly circulations, and the activation of new national and European transport connections.
Important investments were also made by the company Interporto Bologna SpA, such as the purchase of a new shunting locomotive and the preparation of works to expand the terminal area and the purchase of gantry cranes for handling.
Turning to the truck sector, there were no important new developments. The sector ended the year with a slight decrease of -1% compared to 2021.
