From 11 January 2021 a new international connection between Bologna Interporto and the TKN north terminal in Cologne will be in force.
The connection will be operated by TX Logistics, a Mercitalia Group company specialising in international connections, and will include five round trip per week.
On the train it will be possible the transport of semi-trailers with a P400 gauge, thanks to the extension of the Gotthard axis, mega-trailers, swap bodies and containers up to a maximum of 34 units, allowing to save, at environmental level, the emission of about 28 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.
"With this new intermodal connection, Interporto Bologna's rail network is enriched with an important international connection" says Sergio Crespi, General Manager of Interporto Bologna SpA. "The work for the development of rail relations in recent years is bearing fruit and we are proud of it: despite the pandemic, the 2020 rail transport figures in Interporto have grown significantly and, at the beginning of 2021, this train will be joined by further rail connections to southern Italy".
