A new intermodal service by Terminali Italia (RFI - FS Group) from Interporto di Bologna to the San Ferdinando terminal in Gioia Tauro, Calabria, has started. The connection between the two hubs is carried out, as of 4 July, by three pairs of trains per week operated by Ferrotramviaria for Medway, carrying MSC maritime containers.
The train departs from Bologna in the direction of Gioia Tauro on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and in the opposite direction from San Ferdinando in the direction of Bologna on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
"The new service between Interporto Bologna's intermodal terminal and Gioia Tauro represents a piece that further enriches our rail network and confirms the role of Bologna's logistics node as a fundamental connection hub between northern and southern Europe," comments Giuseppe Dall'Asta, Director of Interporto Bologna S.p.A.. "These important results are the fruit of the teamwork and efforts put in place in recent years by Terminali Italia and Interporto Bologna, united by a strategic partnership aimed at developing the node's traffic. We will continue to work to transfer more goods from road to rail, free the roads from trucks, and contribute to the European Green Deal goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050".
