Interporto Bologna is a partner in the European TRANSCEND project (Transport Resilience against Cyber and Non-Cyber Events to prevent Network Disruption), funded by the European Union’s “Horizon” programme, which is dedicated to strengthening the protection and resilience of critical infrastructure in the freight transport and logistics sector.
The project (lasting 36 months) is coordinated by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and involves a broad, multidisciplinary consortium comprising freight transport operators, public authorities, technology providers, universities and research centres.
The main objectives of TRANSCEND involve building on existing tools to develop advanced technological solutions and establish shared guidelines and procedures at European level, with a view to protecting critical infrastructure from physical, cyber and hybrid threats and thereby enhancing its resilience. Among the key outcomes is the ‘Control Tower’, a digital platform with integrated business intelligence that will enable stakeholders to have a continuous, shared view of physical, cyber and hybrid threats and risks, thereby overcoming information gaps between and within organisations.
The platform will be tested in practice at the three pilot sites included in the project, one of which is the Bologna intermodal terminal, alongside Luxembourg Airport and the Port of Valencia in Spain. Interporto Bologna is supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region’s Transport and Logistics Institute Foundation, Gruber Logistics and the DBA Group, with the aim of field-testing the solutions developed, trialling innovative methodologies and technologies for monitoring the security of the logistics chain, protecting the integrity of cargo during multimodal transport, and coordinating resilience capabilities across critical infrastructure at European level.
The project is currently underway; on 26 March, the consortium held its third General Assembly, a key event to review progress made, align the partners’ activities and define the next steps towards achieving the project’s objectives.
Participation in TRANSCEND confirms Interporto Bologna’s role as a strategic hub within the TEN-T network and as a laboratory for innovation in logistics and the protection of critical transport infrastructure.
