ER.I.C. - Emilia-Romagna Intermodal Cluster - brings together the main intermodal platforms present in the Region through a memorandum of understanding, promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region and signed in 2018 by Interporto Bologna SpA together with the Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea, Cepim SpA, Dinazzano Po SpA, Terminal Rubiera Srl, Lotras SpA, Terminali Italia Srl Gruppo FS, Hupac SpA, which was later joined by Sapir SpA.
The memorandum of understanding, which was renewed in February 2021, outlined the 2021-2025 programme of activities, aimed at developing and promoting forms of collaboration between the intermodal platforms of the Emilia-Romagna Region on a national and international level. The main objectives include supporting the modal rebalancing between road and rail transport and the commitment to support training in order to improve the skills system in the sector within the region.
The visit to the port of Rotterdam, which is part of the cluster's activity plan, took the form of a two-day visit and meetings with companies and terminal operators in one of Europe's major ports, which stretches from the city centre to the North Sea in the southern Netherlands, extending for kilometres.
As part of this mission, a workshop was also organised at the ERASMUS University in Rotterdam, which featured talks by industry experts on the main trends in European ports in response to the global pressure on the multimodal logistics chain, with a focus on the topics of greatest interest to ER.I.C., namely digitalisation, business cooperation and energy and environmental innovation projects.
