A contract has been signed for the supply and commissioning of two gantry cranes for the Bologna Freight Village.
Thanks to co-financing from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the railway area will be expanded, upon completion of the planned two-phase construction, by about 115,000 square meters equipped with five 750-m tracks, according to the standards required by the European Commission to further promote the modal shift from road to rail.
This expansion will, therefore, see the installation of two RMG rail-mounted gantry cranes, supplied by Austrian industry leader Kuenz, which won the tender.
The commissioning of the two cranes is scheduled to take place by 03/31/2025, will lead to the efficiency of the rail terminal, and is expected to double the number of trains handled by 2030.
The increased use of rail transport will also generate a reduction in CO2 emissions, resulting in environmental benefits for the whole area.
