The Bologna freight villae - Köln north terminal train of TKN, operated by TX Logistik and launched at the beginning of 2021, has increased its services since 9th July. The growing demand for rail transport capacity on this route in both regions, thanks also to the upgrading of the line to P400 profiles, required an increase from 5 to 6 train pairs per week, running from Monday to Saturday.
The connection runs along the Gotthard axis, the expansion of which was completed in 2020, allows the transport of up to 34 units including semi-trailers, mega-trailers, swap bodies and containers and, considering six round trips per week, saves around 23,000 tonnes of CO2 per year compared to road transport.
"The strategic role of the Bologna Freight Village in the panorama of rail transport on a national and European level is increasingly confirmed," comments Giuseppe Dall'Asta, declared the Managing Director of Interporto Bologna SpA. "Thanks to its geographical location, the Bologna freight village represents a natural gateway for the relaunch of rail transport, connecting the north and south of Europe."
