Thanks to the European funding programme Connecting Europe Facility 2 (CEF 2), work is about to start on transforming an area at the Interporto into a safe parking area dedicated to road transport.
The PASS4CORE 2 project (Parking Areas implementing Safety and Security FOR (4) CORE network corridors in ITALY PASS4CORE-ITA 2) sees Autostrada del Brennero as coordinator of a consortium in which RAM S.p.A. as implementing body of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - Central Committee of the National Roll of Road Hauliers, together with 12 other beneficiaries including motorway operators, railway terminals and other private operators, participate. The project partners are involved in the construction of 1,350 truck parking areas and the redevelopment of more than 300,000 square metres of 13 dedicated areas, which will be used to obtain certification as a 'Safe Truck Parking Area' according to European standards.
The planned intervention at the Bologna Freight Village includes the creation of 185 dedicated parking spaces for trucks, 4 for vans and 12 for cars. The area will be fenced off, extraordinary maintenance will be carried out on the existing forecourt, and spaces will be created for services dedicated to truck drivers, such as new toilets, showers and vending machines, to provide drivers with quality services and comfortable spaces.
The works are expected to be completed by summer 2024.
