The new intermodal connection between Bologna Interporto and the TKN terminal in Köln North continues its journey, showing reliability and punctuality with a transit time of less than 20 hours.
The train crosses the Monte Ceneri base tunnel, which was opened on 4 September and has made the Rotterdam-Genoa rail corridor even more efficient, and allows the movement in both directions of containers, swap bodies, mega trailers and semi-trailers with a P400 gauge, thus contributing to a modal shift from road to rail and a cut in CO₂ emissions estimated at around 80% in one year.
The service consists of five pairs of trains per week loading up to 34 cargo units, is operated by TX Logistics, a company of the Mercitalia group, and adds a new international intermodal connection to the Bologna Freight Village rail network.
"Interporto Bologna further consolidates its role as a gateway in the international railway scene" says Sergio Crespi, General Manager of Interporto Bologna SpA. "We continue to work to add new routes and help shift traffic from road to rail, the mode of freight transport that accounts for only 0.4% of the EU's greenhouse gas emissions."
