The Bologna Freight Village, with its rail terminals owned by the Italian rail infrastructure manager R.F.I. and managed by Terminali Italia, is the first Italian freight village to enter the INLANDLINKS terminal network thanks to regular intermodal services to/from the Rotterdam port (operated 4 times/week by GTS/Shuttlewise).
INLANDLINKS is the online platform created by the Rotterdam port to bring together the terminal facilities connected to the port: currently 38 terminals, 27 of which are in the Netherlands, 4 in Germany, 3 in Belgium, 1 in Poland and 1 in Italy (Bologna).
The supply chain operators can analyze and compare the different terminal facilities to identify the best transport solutions, optimize their processes and use of intermodal transport services.
Among its features, the platform enables users to build the optimal transport route between origin and destination, based on the available facilities and the services offered.
Considering the significant estimated growth of the port's traffic flows in the next 25 years, efficient connections with the hinterland will become even more important in the near future.
To be part of this network represents an added value for the Bologna freight village and its rail facilities (300.000 TEUs capacity and 17 tracks with an average length of 550 m). An additional visibility opportunity also towards ovearseas shippers interested in multimodal transport chains connecting the Rotterdam port to Italian destinations through the Bologna node.
